It’s the middle of August, which means the school year is about to begin. Many children are anxious to take the next step in their educational career and reestablish friendships, while others look ahead with some fear and apprehension.
When asked what they hope to achieve in the upcoming school year, some of the youth in the RISE summer program responded with hopes of getting diplomas and finding work. One young man stated that he wanted to be able to “learn to respond to bullies.” This shows that looking ahead to the next nine months of school can be very different to children who feel accepted and those who do not.
