International Children’s Day: Advocating for & Protecting Our Youth
Each year, the global community celebrates International Children’s Day in June. Child welfare organizations and various countries honor this special day by advocating for and protecting children’s rights, safety, and well-being. RISE Services, Inc. has been creating opportunities and supporting children and their families to provide for their physical safety and mental well-being since 1987. We work with children and families in Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, and other locations in the U.S. Join us to learn more about who we are and how we celebrate children every day.
History of International Children’s Day
International Children’s Day originated in 1925 when countries across the world held the first World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children. As a result, international leaders adopted the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which included:
- Supporting the physical and mental development of children
- Providing shelter and safety for children with no parents
- Making children the priority in times of distress
- Protecting children from every form of exploitation
Celebrating & Protecting Children Today
The movement that led to International Children’s Day advocated for improving the welfare of children worldwide by changing how society views and treats children. Advocates for children were instrumental in ending child labor, guaranteeing access to education for all youth, and defending a child’s right to safety, protection, and other fundamental human rights. In our present day, children and youth across the U.S. are provided access to physical and mental health services, education from Kindergarten to 12th grade, clean and safe environments in which to live, and protection from mistreatment, abuse, neglect, and all types of harm.
How RISE Protects Children & Their Rights
RISE Services, Inc. team members are committed to transforming children’s lives through our person-centered services. For children who require services in their formative years, we provide early intervention services and therapy for developmental disabilities. We offer counseling and medication management for those in need of mental health support. Our foster care and host home interventions offer safe, stable, and caring homes for youth who need temporary or long-term families with which to live. Through our children, family, and community-based resources, youth are guaranteed foundational human rights that protect, educate, and support their physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
