Love in Action: Real Stories From RISE Foster Families
Foster parenting, at its heart, is about extending love and support where it’s needed most. Mitchell and Jeri embraced this calling with open arms, with the support of RISE Services, Inc. Their journey, inspired by friends who welcomed foster children into their homes, has shown them how fostering can transform not only the lives of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) but also their own lives in ways they never imagined.
Embracing Challenges and Rewards
Mitchell and Jeri have been foster parents for three years after navigating their own challenges with infertility. Their honest and open approach led them to dive in headfirst, embracing every challenge and reward. “It’s a lot of time on your part. You have visits, doctors’ appointments, and making sure the child has all their needs,” Mitchell says.
They explain that, despite some challenges, it’s a joy to take this journey. “It’s been the best thing for us. We’ve had lots of kids come through our home, and we’ll continue to welcome more,” says Jeri.
Building Stronger Families and Communities
Fostering is about providing a loving home and building brighter futures for children who need care. At RISE Services, Inc., our mission is to provide opportunities for and with people. That’s why we support foster families on every step of their journey. Foster parents receive resources and guidance tailored to the unique experiences of children in their care, including individuals with IDD.
According to national statistics, there are thousands of children in the foster care system who would benefit from stable, loving, and supportive environments. Foster parents play an important role in helping children thrive.
Small Moments, Big Impact
The experience of fostering is a journey of growth, reflection, and countless meaningful moments. And for Mitchell and Jeri, the fostering journey has allowed them to expand their family and adopt their daughter. “She was meant for our family,” says Jeri. “She fits into our lives so well and so perfectly. We would never have had a chance to meet her otherwise.” They’re thrilled to continue the fostering journey.

For families considering foster parenting, Jeri says. “If people could push past their own reservations, they’re going to have more blessings and more wonderful things in their lives than they ever thought could happen. It’s everything. Our children are everything.”
