RISE is Hiring in the Portland Metro Area!

When describing eyesight, somebody with 20/20 vision is said to see things clearly at a distance of 20 feet without any assistance. RISE Oregon is very focused on achieving a 2020 vision as well, but we need a lot of help to achieve our goal.

We have been serving the needs of children and adults living with disabilities in the Portland Metro area since 2014, and we want to increase the number of people we support even more! That is why we are so excited to announce our goal of serving 200 with 200 DSPs BY 2020!

We are hiring now, and looking for people who have a passion for helping others with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and great communication – we’ll teach you the rest! We pay a competitive $16 per hour with no experience needed. In addition to working with our terrific clients, our benefit package includes holiday pay; a retirement plan; vacation and sick time; health, dental and vision plans; 24 hour employee assistance plan; flexible scheduling; career advancement opportunities; and professional development and mentorship, all in a casual and caring work environment.

Why Should I Become a Direct Support Professional?

A Direct Support Professional, or DSP, is a person who works directly with people with developmental disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities. Their purpose is to help the individual function effectively in a family setting as well as in the community, and set and achieve personal goals as they gain the skills to live a more independent life. A DSP provides critical services such as assisting clients with routine activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, bathing, and communicating. They also help with keeping track of medications and doctor appointments, meeting companionship needs, providing assistance in the community, supporting employment needs, and building a stable family setting.

Ultimately, one of the most important impacts a DSP has is teaching valuable life skills to the individuals they serve. A DSP is a mentor who is able to impart the life skills some may take for granted such as grocery shopping, chores, socializing, and budgeting, that make a huge impact on our individuals as they experience and learn from them in a caring and stable environment.

As part of our wide network of Direct Support Professionals, you will have the opportunity to serve and support our clients. You’ll get to work in a variety of environments, and you’ll get practical, real-life skills which you can apply to careers in the fields of social work, psychology, sociology, nursing, or any of the social or behavioral disciplines.

We will teach you job skills such as CPR, first aid, de-escalation and intervention techniques, proper lifting techniques, so you will have the knowledge you need to perform your job safely and efficiently. Best of all, you’ll have the opportunity to become an important part of someone’s life. You’ll help others achieve their own personal growth and build their best life. Many of our DSPs say it is one of the most rewarding job fields they have ever experienced.
