Being able to participate in the same activities as their family and peers is a big deal for people with physical or developmental disabilities. Luckily Ty Miller, Executive Assistant to the CEO at RISE in Mesa, and his father Steve understand that desire. Not only do they understand it but ten years ago they decided to do something about it.
“My father was a professional fisherman for many years. It was something that I grew up doing with him,” states Ty, “so when we were looking for a way to give back, it seemed like a natural fit.”
This decision resulted in a non-profit organization that focuses on people with physical or developmental disabilities.
Ty describes the event:
“Each year we bring in about 60 participants (those with a disability) and close to 150 volunteers and take the participants fishing for a day. Last year was our 10th anniversary! We host the event every year at Sand Hollow Reservoir in Hurricane, UT.”
RISE Services was proud to partner with Ty and Steve in this event last year.
